This session was part of my 2011 fall family mini sessions! This was a 45 minute session and we held it at Lair O' The Bear Park in Morrison, CO. This was my first time shooting at this park and I definitely wasn't the only photographer with this idea! This park has great fall color, I'd rate it 5 out of 5 stars. The park is huge and there are tons of trails to hike & explore. Because our sessions here were only 45 minutes and there was a lot of walking I had these sessions planned out shot by shot.

This session was so much fun =) I absolutely adore this family and love seeing them every year for photos. It's so much fun to watch their family grow year by year! Thanks so much for supporting my business.

The Struzzieri family won this session from the Denver A&M Club football watch party. I gave away two sessions and was lucky to get this wonderful family. Crazy enough Erin's dad works with my mother-in-law in Houston - small world!

We did the session at the Denver Botanic Gardens at Chatfield in part of the Hildebrand Ranch Park with the old wooden farm buildings and animals.

This session was part of my 2011 fall family mini sessions! This was a 45 minute session and we held it at DeKoevend Park in Littleton, CO. This park is my "go-to" park for just about any session. There are huge trees that provide shade at all times of the day (even at high noon). The park has just a few trees that turn red in the fall, sprinkled in with the abundant yellow ones!

Its hard to imagine that in January 2011 I was photographing these cute little twins newborn photos and in these photos they are 10 months old! Time sure flies. I brought my little wooden chair, and it was a hit! Lainey & Parker are such cuties, can't wait to see you guys again soon!

This session was part of my fall family mini sessions! This was a 45 minute session and we held it at Silo Park in Greenwood Village, CO. The park is beautiful all year, and keeps a lot of color throughout the winter. There is a charming little wooden barn next to the parking lot that was converted into a picnic area which makes for another little place to photograph.

Lynn is also a photographer! She specializes in Boudoir Photography, check her out here Bare Boudoir Studio. Because Lynn was another photographer and she has older kiddos, we really pushed the the time right up to sunset to get the best light for their session. I was a bit concerned because a couple clouds moved in, but the light held up for us and we were able to get some beautiful glowy rim light.

Colorado Senior Photographer | Woodland Park High School | Class of 2012 Senior Photos

Bryan is graduating from Woodland Park high school in 2012! We started his senior photo session at Garden of the Gods then moved to old Colorado City for an urban setting.

When I scoped out this location, in the alley behind the shops the commercial cleaners were blasting Taylor Swift songs, which I found pretty hilarious considering you could hear the employees singing along and they definitely weren't as good as Taylor Swift. By the time we got there no one was singing along but it was still funny... instead we were left with a nice clean linen smell.

Bryan usually wears glasses, but I had him take them off for a few shots since they were the auto-tinting kind. This guy has some amazing eyes, he should show them off more often.

Eleanor is an adventurer always collecting and exploring - she reminds me of myself when I was a little girl! Connor is a happy-go-lucky little guy, showing off that big smile and very easy going. We woke him up and started our shoot, he was good the whole time.

Littleton Family Photography | Roxborough State Park

Jakki & Bryan are one of the cutest couples, my wedding clients from their amazingly gorgeous wedding at Cheyenne Mountain Resort in Colorado Springs. Their little one, Landon slept through part or most of the ceremony so we didn't get him in very many of the formal photos.

We set up a family portrait session starting at Arrowhead Golf Course in Littleton, CO then headed over to Roxborough State Park to finish up the session. It was a super windy day, but that didn't stop Landon, he was full of energy and ready to show off his running skills.

Thanksgiving this year... I'm thankful that we got to spend Thanksgiving with family! James's mom drove in from Houston and we traveled up to Louisville, CO for some turkey dinner with James's aunt, uncle and cousins! It was a wonderful meal and we had a lot of fun.

This center piece is actually made of bread! Crazy.

We played girls vs guys catch phrase! I got stumped on "Franks & Beans" haha. James got the word "bridle" and he didn't know what it was so I whispered in his ear that it was for a horse and Kevin actually guessed it! Arggg I shouldn't have helped them out!

A Day in Broomfield

On Tuesday, I drove up to visit Corrie & Rilynn in Broomfield. We first started with some headshots for Corrie - she's another photographer and needed and updated one! Check out her site here: http://clb-photography.com/

Then we played with her flashes to try and sort out the problem she was having with some gear. We took silly photos of monkeys & miss Rilynn playing dress up.

After that I got invited to the park by miss Rilynn and I just couldn't turn that down.

Rilynn has the biggest imagination of anyone I know! This girl should write stories. We first watched her play.

And then we participated in her adventures. Here we are walking through the forest trying to be quiet to not wake up the lions.

Here we are in the lions den - the snow is lion poo. =)

Corrie & I got "stuck" and had to be rescued.

Corrie pretended to be a lion & chased us back to the playground.

The scary lion had to fix a boo-boo

Then we got hot chocolate

We started out the session with some incredible wind but as we switched locations from the park to the state capitol it seemed to get a little better. I love the connection they have, you can just tell they are so in love.

2011 Denver Susan G Komen Race For The Cure

On Sunday, October 2, I woke up at 4:30AM grabbed my camera and a cup of coffee and headed out to photograph the most amazing event. I had been asked to join a team of 16 professional photographers to photograph the Susan G Komen 19th Annual Race For The Cure held in downtown Denver. Our images will be seen throughout the year on the Komen Denver website and on our facebook page, Colorado Professional Photographers Give Back.

From the Komen Denver website, "Fifty-thousand walkers and runners took to the streets of downtown Denver decked out in pink regalia to honor, remember and celebrate those in their lives who are fighting or have fought breast cancer. This army of pink raised nearly $3 million for the care and treatment of themselves, their partners, sisters, daughters and friends suffering from this deadly disease."

Color Palette Ideas For Family Photos {Park}

One of the first questions I get asked about family photo shoots is what to wear and can I wear white?

White would be great on a beach, in the snow, or even in an urban setting if the buildings had a lot of white on them where we were shooting but for a park in summer, its a little too contrasty against the dark colors. Instead try these color palette's (Thanks Chance!) www.design-seeds.com

Just try to keep your main colors in the darker hues, and add pops of color in the other colors with accessories, all of these would work well in the parks I shoot in. So you don't have to feel like I'm shoving you into a boring corner, you can still have fun with color and match the colors of the park.

A Colorado Sunset

I came across this cute little park while out to eat with my husband and thought it would be a perfect spot for family portraits. It has a barn like structure on the property that acts like a gazebo with picnic tables underneath. The grass is well watered and very green with wonderful landscaping. There is also a park which is a fun way to reward little kiddos for their participation in family portraits! Because of the crazy Colorado weather we had to reschedule this shoot from its original spring date so the trees weren't as in bloom as they were in April.

Shine 2011 @ Flatirons Community Church in Lafayette, CO

This was definitely the most rewarding photoshoot I've ever done. I volunteered as one of many candid photographers at Shine this past weekend. It was an amazing event and I'm blessed to have been a part of it this year. The event was filled with so much love, joy and happiness; it was contagious and I smiled so much that my cheeks hurt the next day. We did a live edit at the event so that all our images could be shown to guests on the big screens around the church, it was definitely a huge production and couldn't have been done without the amazing photographers volunteering to edit our images.

The guests walked in on a red carpet with paparazzi's & a cheering squad! There were games, sno-cones, cotton candy & popcorn.

I've been doing a lot of spring cleaning lately, which isn't much fun. But last weekend we bought and planted some flowers and I just couldn't help myself when it came to buying these Iceland Poppies - yes I will probably kill them but look how gorgeous they are!!! Lots of fun changes coming down the pipe, even some yummy portrait specials to get the summer in full swing. As of June 3rd I'm officially a full time photographer (not that I didn't put 40+ hrs in a week already) its just that I've quit my part time job and I'll have more ME time to shoot silly flowers and roam through the neighborhood.

Where I've Been

You might have noticed that for the past couple weeks I've been away from the internet - no blog posts or facebook messages. My husband and I went on vacation and not just any vacation - a trip to Europe for just about two and a half weeks. It was beautiful, spectacular and fun. Here's a sneak peek into places we visited. I took about 2500 images in total and two dozen ipad videos. In the end I was ready to come home to my bed with my pillows, a room with a shower, and and easy way to wash my clothes. It was definitely an adventure and I hope you enjoy some of the photos - of course more to come in the coming months - we're in the middle of wedding season so it will definitely take a while longer to show them off.

I chose the area around the Denver Art Museum for the second half of Tiffany & Michael's engagement session. I love this area because the architecture is interesting and there are a bunch of fun spaces to photograph in. I was hoping for a beautiful sky and some amazing sun rays, but instead we had an overcast day - I was a little disappointed. The overcast sky provided us with a nice soft glow and now I couldn't imagine it any other way.

Meghan & Jeff's Ice Skating Engagement Session - Part 1

Meghan and Jeff wanted to incorporate their love of ice skating into their engagement session so we did the shoot at the ice skating rink in the Parks Mall of Arlington, TX. It was a warm day outside and I didn't quite think to bring a coat to the ice skating rink - it was freezing. I just love that Jeff went from cowboy boots to ice skates.

They are very good ice skaters and both grew up ice skating, so we were able to do some spins.

Across from the rink was this very neat wall with arrows, I just couldn't resist!

When Tiffany & Michael chose Coors Field as their first location for their engagement portraits I was ecstatic! I absolutely love when my clients choose fun locations for their sessions. Tiffany's dad grew up with the third base coach of the Colorado Rockies, and was able to get us in without a fee. I'm on vacation this week in Texas at my parents house. I came to bring my two little doggies here for their three month summer vacation while we are in Germany in May. We decided that we'd rather not board them for the three weeks we are gone - so my parents offered to take them - only downside is that we had to drive them down to Texas and will be dogless for April & June. They will have lots of land to run and play and even people to crawl in bed with.

My parents just got a puppy a week before I showed up so they will be living in the dog house with 4 dogs. I'm going to see If I can get a photo of all four dogs together before I head out.

I had to wear out little miss Mattie in order to get her to sit still for photos. We are trying to teach her to sit still in your lap but she's like a little alligator and her mouth is open just looking for anything to chew on.

Mattie adores her big brother Jake and he is in love with her even if it means getting chewed on.

Cows Gone Coconut - A Photo Story

Lindsay Karson started her gluten free cookie business, Greater Good Foods, LLC, in 2008 after struggling with her own dietary challenges the previous year. In 2007, Karson found out she was allergic to gluten and also lactose intolerant. These dietary challenges led her to explore other ways to make her favorite foods without using items she was allergic to. Even with the success of her gluten free baking company, Karson was left wanting dairy free ice cream. After successfully creating a tasty non-dairy ice cream using coconut milk, in 2010 she registered Over The Moo, a company dedicated to producing dairy free frozen desserts. In 2011 she changed her business name to Cows Gone Coconut so she could trademark the name.

Karson currently sells her ice cream at the Denver Urban Homestead farmers market, Marczyks Grocery in Denver and is expanding to Lucky’s Grocery in Boulder. The recipes are all hand crafted with most of the ingredients being organic and sweetened only with agave, coconut sugar and Colorado honey. Karson mixes, dips, packages and delivers each and every pint by hand.

I am working on a photo story of small business owner, Lindsay Karson. She owns a non-dairy frozen dessert company - Cows Gone Coconut & teaches yoga . I met Lindsay a couple weeks ago at a grand opening event for Samadhi Center for Yoga and I was just intrigued by her story, drive and inspirations. I am lucky enough that she is letting me into her life for a couple weeks so I can photograph the things she does.

The Samadhi Center has an amazing room for their yoga classes and I was able to capture this image during Lindsay's 5AM Aquarian Sadhana held the first Sunday of every month. The class is run by donation only. Waking up at 4:30AM on Sunday morning to drive to yoga, isn't my cup of tea, however it was very peaceful, relaxing, and calming. If I was a morning person or lived much closer this would be an uplifting way to start your day.

Spring Fashion Ideas

The biggest question I get about photo sessions is "What should I wear?" In truth I can make any clothing selection work within a chosen background but there are definitely choices that work better than others.

In general do not wear clothing with large high contrast logos on them, any text on your shirt will be one of the first things you look at in your image, if it is a small pocket sized logo it is probably OK. Try to have everyone stay in the same tonal range, i.e. everyone is wearing pastels and jeans instead of one person wears a black shirt and the other wears a white shirt.

Thanks to PinkleToes For Photographers for these lovely clothing designs, can't you just imagine your photos done while wearing these -- amazing: I believe all these outfits came from Old Navy last year.

This last set is probably my least favorite, but it still works because one person is wearing a dark shirt with light colored pants and the other is the opposite so you are still balanced in the photograph.

How To Photograph A Laptop In A Dark Room | Studio Tutorial

Its fun to get a behind the scenes look at how a photograph is produced. There was no happy accident here, everything was controlled within the studio. Thanks Sean for being my model. The mood and thought behind this image was a student up late at night working on a project in the dark.

How I got here: (Production shots taken with my iphone)

The final image is composed of 3 images, Shot 1, Shot 2 and a screen shot.

SHOT 1:
In the first shot I used a ProPhoto strobe with a softbox for the main light source, which is placed slightly above & behind the laptop. I chose a softbox to project soft light as to mimic light coming directly from the laptop screen. Don't be fooled the shutterspeed in this image isn't slow enough to capture any light from the laptops screen.

I used a tungsten light with a blue gel to light up the hands and give the face a little rim light. You can see the touches the tungsten adds to the image when you look at Sean's left hand - at his knuckles. I had to add a blue gel to the light to match the color of the light to the main light. I could have used another strobe here instead of the tungsten light but I didn't have anything small enough to put back there.

I used a scrim as a bounce board to light up the right edge of the laptop. This shows up much more in shot #2 but I wanted to have it placed correctly for the first shot. It is about 3 ft from the laptop and it adds just enough punch without going overboard.

I used a 4x5 Camera with a Leaf back (digital back). The camera is tethered to a different laptop and shows the photos as I shoot. This allows me to see the entire final image on a large screen so I know what works and what doesn't.

SHOT 2:
This shot uses the exact same setup except Sean isn't in the image. I used a longer shutterspeed for this image. The purpose for shot 2 is to get the keyboard as glowy as possible. The keyboard from this image will be superimposed into the first image to maximize keyboard glow.

SCREENSHOT:
I did a screen shot on my desktop computer to superimpose onto the laptop's screen - I should have used the laptop because my desktop screen is much wider than the laptop screen so I had to delete a chunk of the middle of the screen so everything fit and looked normal. In the end it looks fine. I used the Photoshop Perspective & Warp tools to get the screen in there at the right angle. I thought it would be silly to make it like Sean was editing the same image and looking online for Photoshop tutorials.

Red Rocks Wedding Photography | MacKenzie & Dominic | 12/19/2010

As a Colorado wedding photographer I love it when I get the opportunity to photograph a winter wedding. The thought of a bride in a beautiful white dress standing among a snow covered backdrop gets me overjoyed.

MacKenzie & Dominic chose to get married at the Chapel at Red Rocks in Morrison, CO. We were hoping for a snowy backdrop but it just didn't happen - instead we had beautiful fall colors that played perfectly with the red ribbon on MacKenzie's dress. Red Rocks Park is an amazing place to photograph anyone, let alone a beautiful bride. I felt like I hit the jackpot on this one. Colorado's famous blue sky came out and the color was so perfect against the natural earth colors of the rock.

After the ceremony we took pictures around the park then headed out to Maggiano's Little Italy in downtown Denver for celebration & dancing.

How To Backup Your Images

Recently I've been asked by quite a few people what I use to backup my libraries of photos. In reality I use multiple solutions, not just one. I have 4 TB of storage on my main computer, 3 External Hard drives, Online Cloud Storage & I store DVDs of images at an off site location.

Sound excessive? Its not. Mechanical hard disks WILL fail. If you don't store anything off-site, what happens if your studio/house burns down or gets broken into? I don't ever want to have to explain to a client why I lost their images.

Here's the breakdown of my plan:

After I shoot, I do not erase my memory card until the images are downloaded to my computer and backed up to an external hard drive / indestructible thumbdrive. If I am backlogged - I might dump all the images onto Wuala (cloud storage) just for safe keeping. If I am not backlogged the images will get culled, edited and uploaded to Pictage as soon as possible. Pictage provides a lifetime backup of your images - once I get my images to Pictage I feel much better, until then I can backup 80 GB onto my waterproof / fireproof USB thumb drives - made by LaCIE available on Amazon.com.

SERVICES I USE:

Wuala - (Cloud Storage) For Backup of shoots in 1 calendar year - this also gives me access to files from anywhere so if I go on travel and want to work on images & I forgot to transfer them to my laptop I have access. Pretty sweet service. Its free to sign up and my referral link gives you an extra 1 GB free

Pictage - (Cloud Storage) - Lifetime backup of all images uploaded into system. Monthly fee to use Pictage.

Local & External Hard Drive Space: I use my computer to store 2-3 yrs of the most recent images, Raw & JPG files. My external hard drive is an exact replica. I have a thing for LaCIE hard drives - some people hate them but I have had great success with them.

DVDs / Solid State Storage - At the end of each year I backup all shoots and mail them off to my parents house, boring I know and time consuming. I'm waiting for solid state hard drives to become cheap then I will just have one for every year and mail it off. Key to solid state hard drives are - no moving parts, yes they can still fail but failure is less likely.

So there you have it: for me to lose all my images: my house, my parents house, Pictage & Wuala would all have to crash at the same time - whats the probability in that?

Highlands Ranch Photographer {Newborn Twins}

Lainey & Parker at five weeks old! Mom & Dad are lucky to have such beautiful babies. They were lots of fun to work with. We were able to capture wonderful photos of each of them during the first shoot, but they were WIDE awake so it was really difficult to get a picture of them together without someone smacking the other with an arm or leg. On the second day, brother was cooperative and sleepy and sister was wide awake but content! In the end, it was all a success. Watch their slideshow to see some of the outtakes, still super cute!

Miner Family Portraits at DeKoevend Park

When I arrived at DeKoevend Park for this family portrait session the temperature was 50 degrees, it was bright and sunny (and warm) I even took my coat off during the first half of the shoot. But something happened while we were there and the temperature dropped almost 20 degrees - when I left my car said it was 32 degrees outside!!! Poor miss Charlotte got mighty cold by the time we finished.

Shields Family Portrait At Red Rocks Park In Morrison, Colorado

On the day of the Shields family portrait session I woke up and thought that there must be a fire in the mountains because their was a thick haze covering the mountains. I was really worried about the whole situation and as I drove from Highlands Ranch to Red Rocks I actively listened to the radio to figure out if something was going on. When I got there the answer was "Fall Fog" and it really put my normally bright red rocks colors into a bit of a haze.

Denver Family Photographer - {Rice Family Session}

Have you ever chased around a 2 yr old trying to take their photo in a place full of exciting things? That is what this session was all about! But it was so much fun - we chased miss Eleanor up & down stairs, around and around back up and down the stairs - haha. Eleanor was definitely the most active two year old I've photographed yet. But by the end of the session she wanted me to carry her (probably all that running around) and offered to make me a burger once we found a kitchen! So cute!

For Jakki & Bryan's Engagement session we decided to shoot in downtown Denver starting off at the blue bear. If you are from Denver you know where the blue bear is - its an icon of downtown and a bit of an odd one. I've always wondered who came up with putting a large blue bear statue peeking into the convention center - or it would have been kind of funny to sit in the meeting where that was first proposed.

I really can't wait until their wedding - they are so in love and so much fun to work with!

Client Spotlight: Season Cowdrey - Season's Pottery

I've been photographing the Cowdrey family since April 2008 - when I went over to take some pictures of Brian for his real estate business cards. I was able to sneak a couple pics of his son Ashton but Ayla was out with mommy (old post here). Brian ended up selling us the house we are living in now in May 2009. I was lucky enough to shoot their twins both last year and this year. They are so much fun too! (2010 blog post).

This year Season bought a kiln and started making some amazing pottery! She's started a facebook business page showing off her amazing creations and will soon start an Etsy business. Our 2010 Thanksgiving

A little late but I still wanted to share these images I took of our Thanksgiving this year. James' mom came up from Houston to cook us Thanksgiving. James was super sick the whole time but still managed to eat one small sliver of turkey, world famous stuffing, and a piece of cherry pie. The pie didn't make it long enough to get photographed.

Of course I couldn't resist a photo of two very happy doggies - waiting on their Thanksgiving turkey. Yes - they did get a tiny piece each.

Lynch Family Portraits at DeKoevend Park

DeKoevend Park is my go to park, when all else fails - DeKoevend is there to save me. The park is located on University drive just north of Arapahoe and the park is huge! So with that said, come shoot here! You will LOVE it just like me.

These were done Late Late Late fall - in fact I didn't expect the park to have any leaves left. Just like always DeKoevend came through for me. In the spring this area of the park is not accessible because its the creek bed and it has water in it or mud, In the fall & winter its just sandy and full of leaves (yellow ones).

Lucy & Linus joined us for the shoot and I have to say if you bring your dogs just be ready for even more fun and excitement. I am definitely a dog person so I love working with them, so seriously bring them =)

Nathan & Sarah at Platte River Bike Trail in Littleton, CO

When Patty asked if I'd photograph Nathan & Sarah for her Holiday photos I was ecstatic. I love photographing twins they are so exciting and lately I've done 3-4 families with twins. I'm not sure if there is something in the water here but I've photographed more twins in the last 1.5 yrs than I've known my whole lifetime.

Its such a change of pace to photograph older kids, they actually listen and do what you say - craziness. I guess I've been around 2 yr olds too long where I feel that I have to play the opposite game to get them to do remotely what I would like.

We photographed these on a Colorado bike trail in Littleton. I believe it is part of the high line canal or maybe the south platte river greenway just south of Mineral drive. I had lots of fun creating these photos. Its hard to nail down my favorite but I love the one of them laughing at each other and the photograph of Sarah throwing leaves. I feel that photo screams "FALL".

5 Quick DIY Tips for Photographing Families!

How to take professional looking pictures - DIY Photo Tips

I absolutely love taking photos of families, maybe its the challenge, the craziness or the fun. I think its actually all of the above. I've put together a quick list of things that will help make your family photos better & hopefully less stressful for all!

1) Make the photo fun - a 2 yr old is definitely going to rebel if mom is forcing her to stand still look at the camera and smile - instead try to get the 2 yr old to interact with her family members first (hug, kiss, tickles, whatever it is) then ask for her to look and smile - my favorite images are the candid ones anyways =)

For a serious photographer - the instant you arrive on the shoot, start getting shots of the kiddos, these can be some of my favorite shots from the whole shoot - just because the kiddos are in the stage of who are you and what are you doing. (Caroline on Left - first shot of the shoot, before heading outdoors)

2) Shoot outdoors - I LOVE THE OUTDOORS, I live in Colorado so I should love them. Look for shade. Make sure EVERYONE is fully in the shade, even if you know nothing about lighting you will still come up with stellar images in the shade. Make sure your background is in the shade too.

Try fun things - bring a chair into the middle of a field - Khloe on Right - at Mid-day usually not the best lighting conditions, but I pulled it off here using a reflector.

3) Remember the camera has absolutely no idea what you are taking photos of so its going to try and decide what it thinks the exposure is. The camera determines its exposure from averaging all the color values into a drab gray color (like an overcast sky) so when photographing just look at the scene if you have only really bright whites the camera is going to take that white and make it gray (so it will be slightly under exposed) same with a really black scene - the camera will also make that gray. Just try to find a background with a variety of shades of color then you will have the most success.

4) Take more than just one shot - families have expressions, take a decent quantity unless you are sure that one came out. I take at least 2 of every shot because of expressions. If someone is a blinker, I usually have to take a few more.

5) Hire me, haha or someone else to take your family photos - sometimes kids just react better to someone else doing the shots instead of a family member they are used to.

First of all, I think all my clients are amazing. Chance, however, is one of the most creative clients I know. She has her own etsy store "Made By Chance" selling CUTE little fabric crafts and its no surprise that her kiddos have some of the cutest clothing! She made their Halloween costumes - so adorable. She also loves the color Yellow! Which I love that she isn't afraid to throw some nice color into their outfits. I love the yellow jacket she has. Kind of jealous of that because, if you can't tell from my photos - I love color and I love high contrast.

Raval Family Portraits at City Park in Denver, CO

The Raval's were lots of fun to work with and little Matthew made sure that we kept the shoot fun and exciting. We met up at City Park in Denver, CO for the shoot and it was a wonderful day for photos. I was actually a bit worried about shooting in City Park versus the ungroomed parks in the suburbs but the park worked wonderfully. The light was amazing, filtering through the trees and creating some fun to work with shadows.

Borie Family Portrait at Red Rocks Park

Second shoot ever at Red Rocks. The Borie's live directly across the street from me and I have yet to do their photos until now. They are friends with another photographer and are really happy with their images so I didn't expect to be asked to shoot them but this year they asked me. This makes me really happy - not because I am stealing clients from other photographers but because it proves that I am capturing something special for each family and putting my personal creative style into it. I am creating something different, that you can't get from just any photographer.

One thing I have to say about my images is that they have great color. I see the world as a bright vibrant, fun place - so I make sure that my photos show that. Lately I've been developing an action, which I call the Anthro look - to look like it came out of an Anthropologie Catalog - which I am completely in love with their clothes and catalog. Their October catalog had split toning on almost all the images, with yellow as the highlight and blue as the dark values - its still a work in progress and I've decided that I have to shoot the images to fit into it instead of just trying to apply it to any old image.

Two year olds are definitely some of my most difficult clients - if they sense that the shoot is not fun, then they don't want anything to do with it. I am challenged to get the shots the parents want while still making the shoot fun. I think that outdoor shoots work best at this age because we can do a couple family shots then let them run around, or let them swing between parents, tickles, laughter, hugs - the emotions can be amazing. However once a two year old senses that mom and dad are forcing them to sit a particular way or do something - thats when my shoots take a turn and then it is a struggle for everyone.

For this shoot we did a mixed mobile studio / backyard location shoot. I am definitely partial to outdoor shoots, I love the COLOR, the natural - laid back look, and did I mention I love color? I guess I'm just not a Richard Avedon type shooter (people on white backgrounds).

Halloween Portraits - In Studio Promo

This promo is a keeper - I loved it! Can't wait to see what everyone will dress as next year. I had 12 families come and get their kids portraits done - free of charge. Next year I will probably have two time slots a morning & an afternoon so I have a break for lunch (didn't think about that). It was a wonderful day to have fun kiddos coming in and out of the house all day. James was a good door man and led most everyone down to the basement. It was so funny when Katy came with the twins because she needed help and James wasn't about to hold a baby - at least not yet. Once we have kids I'm sure this fear will go away.

McDoniel Family Portraits at Red Rocks Park

Beautiful fall day with a beautiful family! Jackson is such a great older brother - willing to sit still and hold onto Henry. We started the shoot at the amphitheater and moved along to the geological marker at Red Rocks. There were people up at the geological marker and they asked to take a photo with Henry. He must have been the cutest baby they have ever seen. I can't imagine what you'd say to your friends afterwards "we were up at Red Rocks and saw the cutest baby ever so we asked to take a photo with him" a little creepy but they left shortly after so that was nice.

Veronica & Chris were married at Paraiso Maravilla, October 9th, 2010. They had a beautiful fall wedding - I absolutely LOVED the colors for this wedding - in fact I chose the same colors for mine! There is nothing more intimidating than showing up at a venue you've never seen before to photograph a bride you've never met but when I walked into Paraiso Maravilla I knew that everything would be OK. First of all the place is amazing, tons of great -- I mean GREAT locations to shoot in. There is the garden outside, the giant windows, staircase, archways, another staircase, giant mirror, and the list goes on and on. Veronica was simply amazing, a natural model! Besides being absolutely gorgeous she is totally down to earth and willing to try just about anything. I love how the images came out, but there were no happy accidents on lighting - the further away from the windows the darker the venue got. I used my battery pack + softbox + reflector for nearly every shot.

Project: 3 Environmental Portraits

Larry & Holly volunteered for my recent project of three completely different environmental portraits taken in one evening. The goal was to produce three final photos that look & feel completely different using the same people and taken all in 2-3 hrs (including clothing changes & driving between locations)

I arrived at 6:30PM to find out that their doggies had eaten an entire cantaloupe - core & all ! Pretty amazing and luckily not poisonous to dogs! After cleanup we headed off to the golf course for the first location.

When we were headed back to the house for a clothing change - I just couldn't resist this shot - I LOVE silhouettes!!! In case you can't tell - that is one of the most amazing things about Colorado - the sunsets over the mountains with the reds, yellows and blues =)

As you can tell it was getting dark and our next location is a field near there house - I had initially imagined it with the sun peaking from behind the mountains - but since we had a little surprise cleanup at the beginning we just didn't make it back in time. So instead we had a nighttime picnic with the prairie dogs. This is probably my favorite shot from the shoot - I used a battery pack with a strobe for my main light and a shutter speed of 6 seconds to get the nice ambient light.

That shot really inspires me to try some nighttime engagement photos - so if you know anyone up for this project that lives in Colorado - I'd love to try it out.

Last but not least - the most difficult photo of the shoot - Holly & Larry + Animal Kiddos

It worked out pretty well - what we learned is that Reverend (far left) is scared of the camera clicking noise.

Houston After Wedding Shoot

Photos from Brian & Tara's After Wedding Session in Katy, TX. They were married June 5 in Clearwater, FL and because we didn't want to get the dress dirty we ended up moving the bridal shoot to after the wedding! This is actually great for me - because I do not have to stress about getting the dress dirty either and we can have a lot more fun with it.

The shoot took place around Cinco Ranch neighborhood in Katy, TX.

Brian wanted a photo of his beautiful bride on the motorcycle -- cute!

Hogback Hill 5K

The Trailmark neighborhood in Littleton, CO hosted their 2nd annual Hogback Hill 5K on August 21. I was lucky enough to be their event photographer. The 5K benefited the Marc Jr Foundation. All event photos can be seen by clicking on this link: http://www.pictage.com/864656.

The purpose of this event is help provide funding for Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma (DIPG), research, education, and financial support for families with children who are battling this rare form of brain cancer. While I was visiting my family in Prosper, TX for the gallery show I had the opportunity to photograph my brother before he went back off to college in Oklahoma. We just went down a couple minutes from my parents house near some hay then to an abandoned building. And of course we did silly photos too =)

I have to say I really like the first image of him with the cowboy hat the best... what do you think?

Today's Session: Cowdrey Family Portraits

Wow! Can't believe it's been a whole year since I photographed the Cowdrey family - how time passes so quickly! Ashton & Ayla are definitely some of my favorite photo subjects - just look at how cute they are =) We started out at the Denver Art Museum and moved to Civic Center Park - my suitcases came in handy to protect everyone from the wet ground!

James & Lindsay's Wedding

James & Lindsay were married June 20, 2010 - they held a small family wedding at St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Houston, TX then threw a destination wedding in Jamaica on June 24. Instead of a traditional rehearsal they opted for a sunset cruise with dinner on the beach. The cruise was simply spectacular and the wedding location - amazing! Weekend Vacation: New Orleans

James and I flew to New Orleans for the weekend to visit my brother, Steven. He's interning in Lafayette, LA (~2.5 hrs from New Orleans) but he drove over to stay with us in the hotel. Southwest had a killer flight deal from Denver to New Orleans so we figured he what the heck let's go. It was really nice to be able to travel somewhere and not worry about dragging tons of gear along - just brought a tiny backpack with my camera and 3 of my favorite lenses.

I met my brother at Oak Alley Plantation, we took the tour of the estate - it was really neat and the 300 yr old oak trees lining the pathway were my favorite. He let me snap a couple photos of him here - This would be an AMAZING location for a bridal shoot.

New Orleans - I didn't take as many photos as I wanted to because I didn't want to have to carry my camera around all day (it gets heavy & the extra backpack isn't much fun in the heat / humidity) I'm pretty pleased with what I did shoot and I have a couple to print up for the gallery in Texas.

One of my favorite shots from the trip, I got 2 shots of this guy before he flicked me off -- I just loved the lines and the building behind.

All in all an awesome weekend, even with the threat of a tropical storm - it only rained a tiny bit one day.

Today I've officially completed my blog renovation! New & updated with a slideshow header and the ability to post LARGE photos. I've edited some of my past posts to enlarge the photos & all my new posts will definitely take advantage of this feature.

Every month I'm going to try and show off some of my products that I offer here at Sharon Arnoldi Photography. Getting us started is my Custom CD/DVD Case. If you are already a client you already know about these guys but hey thought I'd show it off.

These little guys automatically come with a portrait session (small res files) or a Wedding DVD of digital Negatives. Cute custom designs with photos from your wedding or portrait session. Probably one of my favorite things to create too. Printed by my lab, Millers Professional Imaging.

Eryn & Michael were married June 19 in Colorado Springs, CO. They picked a cute church downtown (with the MOST adorable Bride's Room). After the ceremony they were whisked away on a horse drawn carriage and arrived at Phantom Canyon Brewery for some eating and good times. Their DJ, Eric Holt of Complete Music Disc Jockey Service was by far the best DJ I've ever seen at a wedding.

Brian & Tara got married June 5, 2010 in Clearwater, Florida at the Hilton Clearwater Beach Resort. A destination for all and extremely beautiful. They were married on the beach just outside the resort with the reception on the hotel's Sandpiper Deck. Incredibly beautiful, relaxed and all around FUN wedding! I had a blast taking photos and my assistant, Nick, got to experience the beach for the first time!

James and I were given these Orchids as a housewarming gift when we finally (1 yr later) had the party. I'm not the best gardener so I wanted to photograph them before they were dead.

The sunlight on them was so perfect yesterday that I took this! I just love taking flower photos when the color isn't so vibrant, because flowers aren't just pretty because of their colors - I love their shape, the texture, they are just so interesting.

Bridals - Kristin Reed

This past week I've been out of town in Texas. I did April's bridals and a Bridal Shoot with Kristin Reed, model. Since I can't share April's Bridals until May 23rd (THEY ARE FABULOUS) I'll share Kristin's since she's not actually getting married. She was a joy to work with and I got some great photographs. You can't really take any bad pictures when you work with someone that pretty.
